Thermal Aesthesiometer: Precision Sensory Assessment for Neurological Dysfunction

The Thermal Aesthesiometer is a sophisticated medical device designed for the measurement of sensory changes related to neurological dysfunction. This innovative tool allows healthcare professionals to assess sensitivity thresholds for thermal stimuli, helping to pinpoint areas of altered sensory perception across the body’s surface.

How It Works

At the heart of the Thermal Aesthesiometer is a highly sensitive Peltier sensor. This sensor is the key to accurately controlling and measuring temperature stimuli for the assessment of sensory thresholds. Here’s how the device operates:

Patient Interaction: The patient can rest a finger on the contact probe, or the probe can be applied to any chosen area of the body. This flexibility allows medical professionals to target specific regions of interest for assessment.

Temperature Control: The device has a wide temperature range, from 5°C to 55°C. It can either increase or decrease the temperature at a controlled rate, ensuring precise and repeatable tests.

Threshold Measurement: During a thermotactile perception threshold test, the Thermal Aesthesiometer is under the control of a personal computer. The temperature of the probe is gradually adjusted either upward or downward until the patient perceives the thermal change and presses the response button.

Automatic Testing: An automatic test program repeats this process a pre-set number of times, allowing for the establishment of threshold levels for warmth and cool sensation perception.

Diagnostic Flexibility

The Thermal Aesthesiometer offers a range of customizable parameters to tailor assessments to the unique needs of each patient and clinical scenario:

Test Choice: Medical professionals can choose between hot and cold tests based on the specific diagnostic requirements.

Reference Temperature: The reference temperature can be adjusted within a range of 25°C to 40°C, providing adaptability to different testing conditions.

Number of Trials: Users can perform 1 to 15 trials, ensuring that assessments can be adjusted for individual patient comfort and preventing fatigue.

Delay Between Trials: The delay between trials can be set from 0 to 30 seconds, allowing for controlled intervals during testing.

Number of Measurements: The device supports 1 to 15 test measurements, ensuring comprehensive assessment of thermal sensitivity thresholds.

Frequently Asked Questions

We understand that you may have questions about our Thermal Aesthesiometer, its applications, and how it can benefit your specific needs. Here are some common questions and answers to provide you with quick and helpful information:

  • The Thermal Aesthesiometer is a medical device designed to measure sensory changes related to neurological dysfunction.
  • It assesses sensitivity thresholds for thermal stimuli at various points on the body’s surface.
  • The patient can rest a finger on the contact probe, or the probe can be held against any part of the body.
  • Tests are performed to determine hot and cool thresholds, starting from either a fixed reference temperature or the patient’s skin temperature.
  • In-built safety features prevent the device from exceeding safe temperature ranges.
  • The device is controlled by a personal computer during tests.
  • Test choice (Hot/Cold)
  • Reference temperature (Default: 32.5°C)
  • Lower and upper temperature limits
  • Number of trials (Default: 6)
  • Delay between trials (Default: 3 seconds)
  • Number of measurements (Default: 8)
  • Record free probe temperature

The device has a temperature range from 5°C to 55°C.

  • Error in temperature setting is less than 0.5°C at 30°C, less than 1.0°C at 15°C and 50°C, and less than 1.5°C at 10°C.
  • Accuracy of the rate of temperature change is less than 10% error over 15 seconds at 1°C/s from 30°C to 45°C, and less than 13.3% error over 15 seconds at 1°C/s from 30°C to 15°C.
